Winter has come, and with it, the desire to hibernate. By this time in the season, the novelty of cozy sweaters and freshly fallen snow gives way to cabin fever and longing to go outside without first spending 10 minutes bundling up!
Just because you want to hibernate doesn’t mean you can’t have an intimate, exciting, and fulfilling sex life and relationship. Here are 14 winter date ideas for when it’s too cold to leave the house.
Put on some good tunes, dance around the kitchen, and make a yummy treat you’ve never tried before! Trying new things together, especially something that requires cooperation, boosts intimacy. Plus, having the oven on heats up the house if you’re trying to save money or live somewhere you don’t control the heat.
Host a game night with other couples…
Break out the Jenga, fire up the fireplace (or, you know, open the app on your TV), have everyone bring food to share, and spend the night laughing and competing.
…Or play a sexy game with just the two of you
Do a hot cocoa tasting
Buy a selection of different sipping chocolates and/or hot chocolates, and do a tasting at your place. Treat it like a fine wine or expensive chocolate: smell it, then take a sip and let it roll around your mouth a bit, then swallow. You’ll discover a new favorite treat and have fun comparing tasting notes.
Be a tourist in your own city or town
Pretend you’re planning a trip to wherever you live now and map out some new (indoor) things to do. What is your area known for? Is there a museum you take for granted? A show that’s coming to town on a limited run? A new restaurant, bar, or coffeeshop? Go check it out! Everyday adventures boost intimacy, helping you feel more loving and connected.
Play in the cold
However that looks for you. Go for a rainy walk or run. Catch snow on your tongue. Ski, sled, snowboard, or skate. Make snow angels. Play in the snow with your pet! Have a snowball fight! Enjoy the white stuff or rain while it’s here. Make it even hotter by warming up together in the shower after.
Netflix and snuggle
Choose a theme for the season (e.g. 2018 Oscar winners) and have a standing movie-and-snuggles date. Clothing optional, always.
Host an awards’ show (or sportsball) party
Winter is prime time for some big awards shows. Throw a fancy party with warm cocktails, nibbles, and your winter finest.
Sleep in and snuggle
Lean into the darkness of the season, and let yourselves rest more. When you do wake up, spend some time cuddling. If it leads to more, fun! If not, that’s OK too.
Watch the sunrise and grab breakfast at a diner
Grab some blankets and a thermos of warm drink and cuddle up to watch the sunrise, before hitting up a diner for a warm, soul-nourishing breakfast.
Hit up a local winery for a winter barrel tasting
Many wineries have events planned throughout the winter. The vines may be bare but that doesn’t mean you can’t sample exclusive wines from the barrel!
Celebrate National Cheese Lover’s Day (Jan 20)
Host a cheese tasting at home or check out local farms or cheesemongers. Can’t do dairy? Make your own nut-based cheezes, or hit up your local co-op or health food store for cheese alternatives that actually taste good.
Take care of your sexual and reproductive health
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month and the perfect reminder to take care of your bits. If you haven’t had an annual visit with a gynecologist or urologist in awhile, schedule one ASAP and have your partner do the same. Similarly, consider getting tested for STIs together, especially if you’re in a new or non-monogamous relationship.
Have a resolutions date
If you haven’t already shared your 2019 resolutions with each other, do that first! Then schedule a time to brainstorm how you can support each other in reaching your goals. You may even want to make this a weekly check-in to share your progress, celebrate wins, and problem solve obstacles.
Warm up in the bath together!
Mix some epsom salts and coconut oil, light a candle or diffuse an aphrodisiac essential oil (I don’t recommend putting oils into the tub itself), and relax in a warm bath.
Sexpert tip: to prevent your skin getting dry, take turns lotioning each other up when you get out.
Winter is a great time to snuggle up and rest together. Take advantage of the long nights and these winter date ideas to recharge and reconnect—with yourself and your beau(s)!
